ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture needles are sterile, single use and incredibly fine, which explains why there is no real pain experienced. It is normal to feel tingling, a gentle buzzing or heaviness around the points.

During acupuncture, thin disposable needles are inserted into specific points in the body to restore balance and promote the normal flow of qi along meridians. These channels of energy have over three hundred acupuncture points located along them, each with specific functions to enhance the health of the body. Acupuncture points lie on channels that connect the internal organs with the surfaces of the body. It follows that by stimulating points close to the surface of the body we can facilitate change on a much deeper organ level.

These acupuncture points are located all over the body. The ones we use most frequently are situated on the limbs, ankles, wrists, abdomen and back. When stimulated, these points elicit a specific healing response in the body, clearing stress hormones, boosting energy levels and naturally bringing the body back into balance. People are often surprised at how relaxing acupuncture is. Acupuncture is a restful and enjoyable experience. Many people feel deeply relaxed or have a little nap during treatment, and look forward to Acupuncture as an opportunity for some much needed down time. Normally after a treatment you feel grounded, relaxed and calm. Some people report a heightened sense of energy directly after treatment, while others can feel an overwhelming urge to sleep. In these cases, it is due to the dramatic drop in stress hormones that are experienced during a treatment.

Cupping: Cupping can be used in the treatment of various musculoskeletal conditions. It works by creating a suction between the muscle underlying the skin and the body surface using a glass cup. Cupping provides relief from tight, sore, stiff and contracted muscles.

Moxibustion: Moxibustion (moxa) involves burning a particular Chinese Herb over specific areas of the body. The essential oils from this herb, known as Ai Ye, penetrate the skin to provide deep warmth and nourishment for the body.
